The big winner was HT White and Co (pictured) who took home the Overall Business of the Year Award and Large Business of the Year Award.

“We were lucky enough to win Large Business of the Year and the Best Overall Business of the Year, which was absolutely thrilling,” said HT White’s Chris Lee. “We did not see it coming at all. It’s so nice to be here today, with so many friends, business colleagues, and in Eastbourne which is such a lovely town to work in.”

The Old Oak Inn in Arlington also took home two accolades; the Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Award, and highly commended in the Overall Business Award. Ellis Building Contractors were also big winners, taking home two awards, for Employer of the Year and the Manufacturing and Construction Company of the Year Award.

Ray Groves of PRG Marketing took the Lifetime Achievement Award for the firm he set up in Eastbourne, which has grown rapidly over the years. “It is a complete surprise,” he said. “It’s a bit of a shock. It is fantastic and I am very honoured.”

One of the other winners on the day was the well known language school Jurgen Matthes winning the Education, Training and Motivation Award in recognition to the thousands of German language students that have come to Eastbourne to perfect their English over years.

MP Stephen Lloyd attended the event and said, “It’s a really nice way to have a bit of fun but also to pat on the back businesses that have really gone that extra mile over the last 12 months.”

Colin Slaughter the Vice Chairman of Eastbourne, Lewes and Wealden Branch of the Federation of Small Businesses who were this year’s headline sponsors said, “It was a super event and great to see so many of Eastbourne and District’s businesses receive such worthy awards for all their hard work and great efforts over the past twelve months. The food was excellent too - well done to the team at the Grand Hotel.”

The event hosts this year were Beverley Thompson, formerly of BBC South and now the Senior Public Relations Manager at Southern Water and Ian Palmer of BBC South East.
